OmniFocus for the Web is intended as a companion product you need either the Mac or iOS version of OmniFocus 3 in order to use it. OmniFocus for the Web is a brand new product that makes the most of the web platform to allow you to manage your tasks on any computer – be that Windows, Linux, or a Mac. The web is a ubiquitous platform – it’s everywhere, the framework behind much of what we interact with, and something we nearly always have access to. Many people started with paper notebooks or index cards, and nowadays we have iPhones and iPads that can go with us everywhere, and even Apple Watches that can be independent devices if we need them to be. The only market this brings in are personal Mac users who were hesitant to use it without a way to use on their work computer.The best task manager you can have is the one that’s always with you, no matter which device you’re using. Omni has said it won’t have much functionality and is an add on to the Mac/iOS app.

The web based app is purely based on the increasing demand for people who have to work in a windows environment having a way to access they database from that computer. OmniFocus users are power users and them going purely with a web app would turn off so many of their customers. Web apps while nice for cross platform functionality are no where as powerful as a native app. We need more of them because the more native apps we can have especially on the Mac is a plus.

To those that are complaining about Omni not moving to web apps don’t really get the company.

I wish I could test this out but unfortunately my iPad is stuck on iOS 10 so I’m not able to upgrade my OF DB to OF3 without losing my ability to use it. If the web gets perspectives and receives a lot more polish, that could bring me back. Even after I'm done using the Windows workstation at work, I'll have my desktop at home and it'll be really nice to have my tasks and projects with me. I paid for OmniFocus 3 and will be watching how the web interface turns out. I really hope they get their stuff in order. Natural language input and an API have been big wins so far. Todoist is going to take some getting used to, but it's largely accomplishing the same thing and even has some perks. However, it's really just confirmed for me that they have no intention on joining the rest of the world and making their products more accessible.įor these reasons, I've spent a fair bit of time in the last few days attempting to transition to Todoist and Trello. In the next few weeks, I'm going to be using a Windows system at work for a good while and was hoping this test would get me by. So, for them to not have the intention on making this version feature complete is beyond frustrating. I've also spent an enormous amount of time fine tuning my process around OmniGroup's implementation of the GTD method.

However, I've invested more money in this piece of software than nearly anything else. I feel that most of the time things get overblown. I so rarely like complaining about products on the internet.

Most other competing apps are cross-platform and have a fully functional web interface and all other platforms are cheaper.

If I work on a Windows computer for 8 hours a day, why would I only need companion app at work? That's where I need my workflow the most, not the least.

Without even the intention to add most of those features, the web interface is largely useless.

So much of what makes the full price worth it is all of the breadth of features that no one else seems to do as well.

We live in a connected world and none of their apps lend themselves to sharing with others or even with your other, non-Apple devices.

OmniGroup charges a lot, for every platform separately, and the Pro upgrades that go with it.

I have their other products and enjoy them well enough, but OmniFocus is my favorite. OmniFocus is hands down my favorite task management app. I don't think it's a good move and it's almost insulting. There was a time where I accepted that their focus was on Mac and iOS development, but that time has passed. I understand that this is currently a beta test, but they've come out and said it's not supposed to be anything more than a companion app, so I'm not too confident that this will be much more than it currently is on release.
